Ukraine and Latvia continue to strengthen relations

Olena Vyshnyakova - Honorary Consul of Latvian Republic, together with the Head of friendship with Ukraine group - Ajnars Mezhulis, and co-Head Olexander Kodola organized four day visit of Ukrainian authorities’ delegation from Chernigiv region to Latvia.

From 10th to 14th April Ukrainian delegates visited number of state institutions and local authorities.

Ukrainian delegation consisted from the Head of Chernigiv regional administration – Valerij Kulich, Chernigiv major – Vladislav Atroshenko, heads of rural and district councils, heads of medical institutions and chief doctors, and community representatives.

Goal of the visit – to gain valuable experience from Latvian side regarding local bodies reforms and regional development. Latvian local governments deal with economic and organizational issues and in fact represent the second vertical of power in the country. Such municipality system is quite effective and can be implemented in Ukraine.

Very important step in this direction is Memorandum of Cooperation between Latvian town Preiļi and Ukrainian Nizhyn, which was signed on 12th April between representatives of two towns. “Almost a year we were on the way for signing of this Agreement. It gives powerful opportunities for development of joined business projects, setting up tourist flows and cultural connections. I’m truly proud with the result, and hope, that this agreement will become one of the successful steps in development of cooperation with Latvia”, - stated Honorary Consul of Latvia Olena Vyshnyakova.
